Jaron and Amanda were married at L'Auberge de Sedona on January 23, 2010! It was the weekend AFTER the enormous snow storm we had up here in Northern Arizona. I shoveled for an hour to carve a space wide enough to back my car out of our driveway--we received four feet of snow in three days. It was the third largest storm in Flagstaff's history! Sedona also received some snow and it was absolutely breathtaking on the red rocks. These guys were great sports and ventured out into the snowy weather to get some great images. We did a "first look" before the ceremony because I was worried about the weather and wanted to be sure we had enough light and time to capture some great portraits... Jaron and Amanda had to move their ceremony indoors at L'Auberge but as you can see, it was still lovely. The happy couple just got back from New Zealand on their honeymoon. ::click here:: to view their slideshow~Cameron~

Michelle and her kids won the family portrait session from the recent Grand Canyon Youth auction and we had a great time in the studio. Sometimes I'm a little weary of "studio" portraits because I think it can be hard for families to really shine. No so in this case. They were ready and willing and we came up with some great stuff. Thanks Michelle for a great time. ~jamelle~

Sweet little Henry was born just a few weeks ago and we photographed him with his parents in their Flagstaff home. As always, they are just so stinkin' cute with their wrinkly skin and little toes. ~jamelle~

We are starting a new feature to our blog called "wedding vendors we love." Ah, there are so many that we do love (and don't worry, we'll get to you too) but to kick off this blog category, let's start with our former bride, a Flagstaff friend and A.maz.ING "seamstress-alternations-crocheting queen," Anne Thomas. She recently started a side business (she's an archeologist by trade) called "Anne's Alterations." She can do just about any alternation you can think of-- so far (and this is just for me) she's cut and doubled my diaper inserts, fixed a leather motorcycle jacket zipper, elongated the sleeves of a pea coat for Matt, hemmed my grandmother's plaid shift dress, hemmed my sister's wedding dress, sewed some curtains for our wedding show booth, and made Owen a yoda costume. Not to mention she made her own wedding dress into two dresses by making her train detachable. It was awesome because she got two looks out of one dress. Anne is one of the only seamstresses in town willing to do wedding alternations and she's quite good at them. If you know me and my rants about wedding dresses, then you already know this rule: Get any wedding dress you want at any price, just DO NOT try to save money on the alterations... a dress that fits makes for a happy bride. Let's face it in our culture women are not used to wearing dresses and certainly not strapless gowns. It's important that the on the occasion where you DO wear a gown, and pay to have your photograph taken in it, make sure it fits well. The times I've had a bride who hated her wedding dress and how it fit her, she hated herself in the photos, which is a shame.

Well it seems one of our favorite brides from 2009, Dreamlyn, is a marketing machine--not really, she's just got a lot to say about weddings and you should read her blurb featured today on A Practical Wedding. This blog is just what the tagline says "Creative. Thrifty. Sane." Listen out there, if you have the money, and want to spend it on a dream wedding (no pun intended) go for it. If you would rather put a down payment on a house that is your prerogative, but what I like to stress to people is that hiring a great photographer is worth it's weight in gold--no matter how small your event. Great photos are always a worth the investment. In Dreamlyn's case she called us within 4-6 weeks of her Sedona elopement, we were available and thus able to quote her elopement pricing. Please CALL (or use the contact link on our site) about elopement potentials as we have lots of dates available in the next 4-6 weeks. 928-225-2511.
